The Festival of The Sun

Sponsored by Australia’s hottest radio station, Triple J, this great two-day music festival takes place in early December and showcases some incredible local and international talent. Musical genres represented here include alternate, indie, hip-hop and blues and roots, so you are sure to be treated to an array of eclectic treats. The Winter Sun Nostalgia Festival

For those of us who are no longer exactly spring chickens, this great festival will have you feeling like a crazy teenager all over again. Featuring rock music from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, this ten-day festival is a celebration of not just the music but also the fashion, cars, style and dance of days gone by. There are street parades, rock and roll dancing workshops and competitions as well as live rock and roll almost around the clock, so if you loved rock and roll the first time round, reminisce a little and step back in time at the Winter Sun Nostalgia festival.

Craft Expo

If you are the crafty type and want a great excuse to spend a few days relaxing in late November, you won’t want to miss this annual explosion of creativity in Port Macquarie. Consisting of workshops, demonstrations and dozens of exhibitors, the Craft Expo also includes live entertainment and refreshments, so check yourself into a Port Macquarie hotel and indulge yourself in a three day festival like no other. You are sure to go leave this event hyped and ready to bust out a few new creations yourself.

Port Macquarie and Hastings Heritage Festival

This part of Australia is definitely quite historically important, with the early convict history closely intertwined with the growth of this now vibrant area. Everywhere you go there are historic sites and significant landmarks, so if you want to know what it all means, this great heritage festival is just what you need. This two-week festival in early April each year promotes a deeper understanding of the local history and does a great job telling the stories of many of those who would have taken part in the establishing of Port Macquarie.

Port Macquarie has changed a lot over the years, evolving from a convict settlement to become a vibrant place known for all kinds of great festivals.
